The senior event was much more dramatic. Wednesfield was once again represented well in the final with 3 riders Paul Heard, Ben Mould and a very impressive Lee Kemp. Paul started off with a bad ride running in last but improved as the meeting went on but with that dreaded draw at No9 against a solid field it was always going to be a tough task to win the title but finished on a very good 14 pts. Lee Kemp started in his very 1st senior final and you would have thought the lad would have crumbled with nerves but he did what any other person would do and enjoyed the afternoon and scored a very good 12 points. But man of the moment belongs to Ben Mould, going into last 4 races of the senior final was lying joint top of the score sheet with 13pts with Andy Angel and Chris Timms with Myke Grimes and Lewis Osbourne just behind on 12pts each. So in heat 17 Myke Grimes and Andy Angel lined up in the same race. Myke made a fantastic gate from grid 3 over Angel and Kemp and took the race win and put him on 16pts. Andy fell and was excluded which ended his title chances. Heat 18 saw Chris Timms end his title chances as he run in last place and finished on 14pts. But final race of the Championships ended in a way that no one predicted. Zak Payne on grid 1. Mark Carmicheal 2. Lewis Osbourne 3. Ben Mould 4. A 2nd he had a run-off a win and he becomes champion. Heat 20 can be seen in the video below. Ben was running in 4th place but as all 4 riders entered the final bend of the final lap of the final race Mark made a move on race leader Zac as Ben made a move on Lewis at the same time but as Zak picked up his pedals to cross the line he slipped off and as in doing so Mark and Lewis also hit the floor leaving Ben to cross the line as race winner. It was a few nervous moments for ben to wait for the referees decision but the ref judged it to be a racing incident and ordered the 3 guys to finish giving Ben the 4pts he needed to become the 2016 British Senior Champion to the pleasure of the Wednesfield traveling fans. This was a great weekend for the Aces and a massive congratulations to Ben and Brandon.
Also a quick mention for Lee Aris who qualified for the final but sadly had to withdraw on the Monday morning due to a recurring back injury. Get well soon Lee and hope you return soon on a bike.
Georgia & Megan Burt were a credit to their selves and their club as they both competed in the U13s British Girls Final. In a few season's time these girls will be standing on that podium if they carry on the way they are going. Well done Georgia and Megan.
