ATTENTION ALL WEDNESFIELD ACES MEMBERS!
Friday from 7pm we will be hosting our clubs 2024 AGM! We strongly encourage all riders, volunteers and any of our other members to be in attendance to have their input and be involved with any decisions for the upcoming season! We'll see you there! On Saturday we will be hosting a track day to get some of the annual jobs done! We will need all the help that we can get so please do come down and lend a hand even if it is just for an hour or two. The track will be open from 11am.

This week training as normal with Tuesday Kids Club tonight 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Followed by the senior training session. Thursday 26th: Senior training session from 7:00pm Next week will be the FINAL Kids Tuesday session of the year! To celebrate there will be warm food and treats available, races and games. It being Halloween fancy dress can be worn (as long as can still ride). We hope as many of you will join us for the celebration of the 2023 season start time 6:30pm. Followed by Senior training. Thursday 2nd November East Park will be host to the Midlands Thursday 4's event organised by Chris Timms. Saturday 16th September was the last national round of this years BYJL and it was held in Poole.
Well done to Jacob and parents along with Corey and parents who travelled to all 4 rounds. Unfortunately neither Ace managed to ride a final as they both sustained injuries and had to withdraw We hope Jacob is ok this morning Whilst Corey who had a ‘little’ slip spent the night in A&E walking out diagnosed with a fractured thumb and a splint! Today the young aces riders had a fantastic day of racing around the tight Hethersett track. Up first was Jacob in the under 10’s with a complete field of 16 riders. At the end of the qualifying heats Jacob had to complete a run off for the B final. After narrowly missing out on the B final Jacob went on to race in the C final where he finished 2nd Well done Jacob! Corey was the next Ace up to take to the track where in his qualifying heats he competed along side the under 18’s as well as the other Under 16’s in his age category. Corey raced his way through the heats securing 3 second places and a third putting him in the Under 16’s A final. Corey then went on to finish 3rd in his final. To begin the weekend Georgia was down in Newport for the Annual Welsh Women's Open event. Was a very good day of racing for Georgia scoring 13 points including a race win but a fall in her last race she finished in 9th place due to how close all the scores were! On to a dryer Sunday the Aces team were away to a wet Birmingham Monarchs track. The Aces were down for the first part of the match but following two 6-4 heat wins to the aces from pairings Corey Burt (1st), Lee Aris (3rd) against Birmigham pairing Paul Herd (4th) and Craig Whitehead (2nd) in heat 11; and Brandon Whetton (1st) and Tom Bewick (3rd) in heat 12. The two teams were now drawing on 59 points. It was heat 14 that the Aces were in the lead on points for the first time with pairing Scott Doherty and Lee Aris taking a 6-4 heat advantage over Birmingham putting the scores at 68-70. Going into the last few heats the Aces unfortunately a rider down and the Birmingham team taking two 7-3 heat wins in heats 16 and 18 the match went to Birmingham with the scores finishing on 95-82 Great weekend of racing for all well done everyone! On Saturday lone Ace Jacob was racing down in Ipswich at the Kesgrave Panthers Track wearing the club colours in the Under 10s Little League Championships. Jacob scored 9 points in his four race heats meaning he qualified for the D final which he went onto win! Well done Jacob! There was more racing action on Sunday as we welcomed the Coventry Sabres team to our track for a Midland League fixture. Despite 12 drawed heats it was the few 7-3 wins sprinkled throughout the match that allowed the Aces to take the win in the end with the final result being 99-80. Saturday saw the final round of the Midlands British Youth and Junior League over at East Park. Following his qualifying heats Jacob was into the A final where he finished in first! Due to being away enjoying his holiday so having missed a round Jacob finished in Second place overall out of all the Midlands riders! Huge well done to Jacob! Sunday Aces were in action down in Exeter to celebrate their 60th Anniversary. The day was a great success and from one Ace club to another huge congratulations to Exeter Aces for reaching this amazing milestone and to all the volunteers who made the day run so smoothly and for getting riders all over the country to race in the sport we all enjoy so much! Corey had been invited to ride in the Junior event where he put up a good fight even riding on a loan bike (thank you Jordan) after his crash at Birmingham the other week. Corey went and scored an incredible 10 points! Next up in the Women's category was Georgia who enjoyed the racing to go and score herself 12 points. Thank you to Exeter Aces for the invites! We now move onto another week full of Cycle Speedway..... SATURDAY RESULTS Day one of the British Club championship weekend the Burt sisters took to the Birmingham track in semi final 1 following a redraw the girls were faced against pairings from Exeter, Leicester and Birmingham. The girls rode great scoring a total of 24 points, Georgia scoring 16 and Megan scoring 8 including a non-start. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough to make the finals but they the true winners for not having to race another 6 rides in the heat and instead could sit in shorts eating ice cream watching their fellow friends and riders battle it out in the final . Well done girls and to all who rode! SUNDAY RESULTS Day two it was the seniors that took to the Birmingham track with hopes in claiming the British Club Open Championship. First of all they had to partake in the semi finals where the aces scored 42 points meaning that they secured a spot in the Repechage with Birmingham Monarchs going straight through to the final on 58 points. Team scores in the semi final as follows: Harrie Everiss: 6pts (from 3) Tom Bewick: 11pts (from 4) Craig Guy: 8pts (from 3) Brandon Whetton: 10pts (including an exclusion) Reserve rider Lee Aris had two rides and scored 7 Onto the repechage Wednesfield were back out onto the now very wet and sodden Birmingham track following heavy rain and thunderstorms. Battling against Bury, Newport and Ipswich for the last place in the final. Despite their best efforts claiming 36 points between them it wasn’t enough to get through to the final but the lads rode great nevertheless! Their scores as follows: Harrie Everiss: 3pts (from 2) Tom Bewick: 10pts (including an exclusion) Craig Guy: 2pts (from 2) Brandon Whetton: 10pts (from 4) Reserve rider Lee Aris had 4 rides and scored 11 pts Team rode great experiencing two very different conditions to the Birmingham track, huge well done to you all! |
