Tough time at the british club championships...

BRITISH CLUB CHAMPS RESULTS
Unfortunately for the Aces it was a tough day down in Ipswich yesterday but our lads put up a good fight nevertheless finishing 5th out of 7 in a tough semi final round which didn’t see them make it through to the Open final which was later won by Great Blakenham B after a run off with Birmingham.
It was a tough match for Lee and CJ in the vets pairs. They were hoping to defend their title but unfortunately a couple of incidents cost them a crack at the top spot but they were still able to claim the final position on the podium!
Happy to have some representation of the club in these events and great effort was given by all so a big Well done goes out to you Aces!

15th June Midland league race day

In today’s fixture, Wednesfield Aces took on the Birmingham Monarchs at home in a spirited Father's Day clash. Wednesfield managed to field a full team of six riders, including juniors Jacob Jewkes and Nyla Aris, who fittingly lined up alongside their fathers—team captain Chris Jewkes and Lee Aris—for this special occasion. Rounding out the squad were the ever-reliable Tom Bewick and the fast-paced junior, Corey Burt.
Despite a strong and determined effort from the Wednesfield side, they were narrowly edged out by a powerful Birmingham team, who took the win with a final score of 94–85.
The match delivered exciting racing throughout, with standout performances from Corey Burt and Chris Jewkes, who together secured two maximum heat wins. The team fought hard right to the final race, showing great spirit and teamwork.
At halftime, we took a moment to celebrate Father’s Day with a special photo opportunity.
We invited all the fathers and their children onto the track for a group photo, and the turnout was fantastic. The image captures just how many dads and kids were present on the day, highlighting the strong family spirit that runs through our clubs.
It was a great reminder of how cycle speedway brings generations together—both on and off the track.

Technically we had 3 Aces in action today first being Megan who was managing the Midlands Womens team in the regional pairs competition.
Narrowly missing out on the win due to a run off being required the midlands team of Lizzie Rigley, Lucy Whitehead and Bekah Humphries had been leading early on and were the only team to score a max 7-3 heat finishing on equal points with the North the run off was ran to decide who got gold. This was only the 2nd match Megan had been in charge and was on the back of a midland win in the women’s league.
Next up was Corey who had been chosen to race in the England shirt in the Junior Home Internationals meeting.
Corey had an impressive days racing scoring a maximum of 16, he was extremely pleased with his performance as were a number of spectators around the track.
Third Ace up today was Wayne Aris who is the England Senior team manager. Wayne’s chosen England team went on to achieve the match win bringing home the gold medal.
Tomorrow Corey will be in action again riding for the Midlands senior team in the Battle of Britain.

Wednesfield Aces Cycle Speedway Club would like to give a big thank you to Councillor Phil Bateman MBE.
Mr Bateman and the team from the Voluntary and Community Sector Support have aided our club by awarding us a grant of £1000 towards the upgrade of our floodlights. We are a local voluntarily run club which has been established for 62 years in Ashmore Park in Wednesfield. We support and are supported by the local community. We hold club training nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays where we require the floodlights to enable us to continue training through the darker spring and autumn evenings. Children from 4-18 attend to learn how to ride cycle speedway a sport which is in race format where the fastest over 4 laps wins. The children who attend are from a range of diverse backgrounds some with disabilities and our British Cycling registered coaches are all fully trained in first aid and safeguarding.
Not just children attend we also have senior riders who also train and ride local league competition matches thorough the darker colder months.
Wednesfield Aces are a friendly welcoming club who are looking for more members whether it be volunteers to help run the club or riders who would like to try cycle speedway for the first time.

Laurels day one...

Great First Day Success At The Laurels
Kick starting the Poole Laurels weekend Ace Corey was invited to race in the junior category. Using the inside gate one advantage in his first race Corey tussled his way into the first corner with the Australian Cody Petty but took a tumble with a rerun his race day took a much more positive turn with a win off his second gate one and being involved in all the action to eventually finish on 11 points.
Lee Aris then took to the track in the vets event after a win in his first heat he also suffered from some early racing issues being served with a point gate deduction in his second heat meant he earnt 3 points for his second race win. Lee continued his winning streak even until his final race when coming against Horspaths Lukas Nowacki as both riders were tied on 15pts at the time and Birminghams Mark Winwood who was only a point behind the pairing. After his final race win Lee took the top spot on the podium and crowned today’s winner.
Some excellent riding from both of our riders today well done to you both. Tomorrow Georgia will be racing in the Women’s event which will be followed by the senior finale.

Aces in Action at Leicester CSC
This weekend saw the Aces in action at Leicester CSC, and it kicked off with an impressive showing from our juniors, Nyla and Jenson. Nyla continues to go from strength to strength, showing real progress with every race. Jenson, who has only recently taken up the sport, held his own and wasn't afraid to mix it with the other juniors—an excellent performance from both! Well done, Nyla and Jenson.
Next up was the main event, featuring Corey Burt, Chris Jewkes, Lee Aris, Nathaniel Ward, and a call-up for Nyla at number 5. The Aces were in the mix throughout, delivering some fantastic racing and strong performances across the board. In the end, the team finished joint second with hosts Leicester, just 2 points behind the winners, Birmingham.
A great effort from all involved—well raced, Aces!

womens league R1 success and flexi League

WEEKEND RACE DAY RESULTS
First time managing the midlands squad and Aces manager Megan lead the girls to victory for a Midlands Win of the first Women’s league round down at Hethersett. After a rocky start to the match it was kept close in scores throughout the whole match but just before half time the pairing consisting of our own Georgia and the Sheffield signed Lizzie pulled off a 7-3 after rerun and a tangle going into the first bend helped to start pulling the midlands team ahead.
Although tired Georgia still went and completed the individual finishing second in the C final.
A lot closer to home East Park staged the second flexi league fixture on Sunday 11th May 2025, after the riders had registered Lee Aris was on hand to choose the appropriate formulas to be used. In the end an individual was chosen for the juniors, and a team event was chosen for the more experienced riders.
The weather was amazing, and the spectators were treated to some excellent racing, The referee for the day was Matt Wilcockson who stepped in at the last minute, which was really appreciated.
The juniors didn’t disappoint and considering the hot weather they individually rode their little hearts out, Wednesfield Aces Nyla Aris fell in her first race and failed to finish, it was the same for Wednesfield Aces rider Jacob Jewkes who fell off in his second race and like Nyla failed to finish. Luckily none of them was injured. The star on the day was Wednesfield’s Erica Aris who rode fantastic and finished joint first with Sophia Dehar from East Park on 18 points. Due to the hot weather it was decided not to have a run-off. Jenson Cummins from East Park came third on 17 points.
Wow what can be said about the senior racing, it was just so fast and competitive, to be honest it was a shame that the heats were not recorded as they were that good. In the end Team 1 won on 42 points that comprised of Paul Heard (19 Points), Nat Ward (6 Points) and Paul Timms (17 Points).
