CYCLING PACKED WEEKEND RESULTS
On Saturday Wednesfield had the pleasure of hosting the 15th Anniversary of the Women’s League meeting as organised by Laura Watson. The day saw an impressive 27 riders take to our Ashmore Park Track including two of our own Nyla and Georgia.
It was Nyla’s first time competing in a ‘women’s league’ event with her goal to be up there with the other riders a goal which she absolutely smashed. Racing all the way through the qualifier and then the B final. Nyla went above and beyond her goal even securing a couple of second and third places and even tried to stick a few inside passes! Great work Nyla!
Georgia made hard work of the qualifier and made up for a lifetime of gate ones (an unfamiliar grid spot for her ) finally qualifying at the last minute following a fall. Going into the A final with an already empty tank and another two gate ones later G secured 6pts in the A final.
On the Sunday Lee and Chris headed over to Birmingham to race in their open club day. Top work lads.

WEEKEND OF RACING FOR THE ACES
Saturday kicked off the start to the BYJL series for 2025 with Coventry being round one hosts. Only lone ace Jacob was able to make the trip over and due to participation numbers spent the round racing two age groups above his own! Nevertheless Jacob went out and put in his four laps for every race to finish 4th in the final! Great effort Jacob!!
Sunday saw an Aces team of 5 head over to Leicester for the first round of the newly introduced Battle of the Midlands. The match provided some very close racing with some great results from our team. Wednesfield definitely lived up to their reputation of being a great team riding style of team using their experience and skills to even out heats by splitting up partnerships of Birmingham's Mark Winwood and Paul Heard as well as gaining heat advantages against Leicester's Kev Burns and Mark Whitehead.
At the end of the heats Wednesfield placed third just three points behind Leicester with Birmingham brining home the win on 71 points.
Wednesfield Team scores:
CJ: Scoring 14pts from 5 rides (3,1,4,3,3)
Nat: Scoring 7pts from 4 rides (1 (-1 for tape movement),1,4,1)
Corey: Scoring 20pts from 6 rides (4,3,4,2,4,3)
G: Scoring 7pts from 4 rides (2,1,3,1)
Lee: As reserve rider scoring 12 pts from 5 rides (3,2,2,3,2)

Joining over 25 riders Georgia and Nat both made the trip over to Coventry for their club day yesterday. On the day they decided the format would be a ladder league.
Nat used his ever increasing speed to get two race wins from about three gate fours on the day.
G was out holding her own on the track but after a clattering along the fence lead to more cautious racing for the rest of the day.
Well done to you both

Firstly, we would like to thank all riders, parents and our volunteers for what was a great enjoyable day of racing so thank you all for coming!
First event of the day was the semi finals for our senior riders to qualify for either the A or B final. Wednesfield’s own Lee Aris and Corey Burt scoring 17 and 16 points respectively earned their spots in the A final. Chris Jewkes missed out on the A final by just a point, Nat Ward and Georgia Burt also joined him in the B final.

Next up was the 15’s and Under Final. Aces Jacob Jewkes and Nyla Aris both took part to continuously build their confidence when racing with others and both put in a tremendous effort. The event was won by Poole’s Jamie Randall on a 20pt max, 2nd place went to Coventrys Jude Wilcockson. The final place on the podium went to a three way run off after all riders scored 17 points; Sheffields Oliver Banyard, Ipswich’s Mitchell Baker and the winner of the run off securing the third place spot Kesgrave’s Charlie Spurgeon.

The B final resulted in Aces Chris Jewkes having a run off for the top spot with Andy Yard of Newport which following an exclusion Andy Yard took the Win which left CJ standing on the Second spot. Third place of the B final also went to a run off between Sheffield’s last minute entry Lizzie Rigley and Birmingham’s Brendan Sidebotham to which Lizzie took the win. After an incredibly timed pass in his final race Nat finished on 11pts with G finishing on 6pts after a fall in her second ride.
In the highly competitive A final Lee was able to stick some incredible passes to finish on 12 points after his five rides. Corey Burt became the talk around the track impressing all with his track skill earned him a respectable 14 points in this top line up. The podium for the A final was overrun by Birmingham with Ben Mould taking the top spot after only dropping the one point, Second place went to Chris Timms with Paul Heard in third.

Well it was another week of Midland League racing for the Aces this time welcoming Leicester Monarchs to what was still a very wet Ashmore Park track. Again this weeks racing was very close and competitive with both teams tied on 45pts going into the interval. With two heats to go it was heat 17 where Aces Chris and Alex turned a 7-3 against to a 6-4 heat win. Then with the final heat also ending in the Aces favour with another 6-4 win was enough to secure the win with 91 points to Leicester's 85.

To begin the day round three of the British Youth and Junior took place. Nyla Aris took to the Great Blakenham track first out of the Aces for her first national BYJL round this year. After all her heats seeing her confidence grow with each race she finished 2nd in the D final.

Corey then competed in the U16's category and after four races qualified into the A final. He finished third in the final to add 17 points to his total placing him in third place overall in this series.

Later that day the Jim Peck memorial was held and Lee was invited to race in the vets event. After only dropping one point to finish on 19 points Lee went on to take the win of the event! In addition, after being asked on the day to fulfil the reserve position in the open event of the Jim Peck memorial. With Kesgrave's Ryker Jolly offering Corey his last two rides Corey went out to score 3 points from his remaining two rides.

Day one:
Kickstarting the British Weekend over at Hethersett Jacob Jewkes and Nyla Aris competed in the U12’s open and girls final. It was Nyla’s first British championships but this did not stop her improving and riding more confidently in each race and went on to finish in 5th place. Jacob also battled his way through the incredibly competitive U12s boys category earning himself a respectable 9pts.
Over at Norwich Corey qualified for the junior final in his 3rd race. Then onto the final CJ had a rough day coming off in 3 out of his 5 rides taking a particularly hefty hit in his final race to finish on 6 points.
WELL DONE to our riders!

Day two:
QUALIFYING SUCCESS
Today was a day of qualifying to get ready for tomorrow’s finals day.
Corey was up first on Hethersett and got through to the under 16s final by winning his first heat.
Later on in the day this time over at Norwich Lee followed in similar fashion winning his first race to secure his place in the Over 40s final.
Well done to the both of you!

Day three:
To kickstart the day for the Aces Lee was up in the over 40’s final which after the completion of his five races, Lee secured silver in the event! Great riding was shown by Lee and the second was very well deserved, well done Lee!
Next up was the U16s final which Corey had qualified into. His quick thinking and clean pass racing secured him enough points to finish in 6th place, a cracking achievement for CJ well done!
The last rider up representing the Aces was Georgia in the Women’s final! Georgia went onto finish in 9th place in what was another very close final.
Well done to all of our aces riders for your achievements over the weekend
Also well done to all the winners of today and to Kesgrave Panthers Cycle Speedway Club for the organising and running of such a jam packed finals day superb work by you all!
