Lots of fun being had at Wednesfield Aces. On Tuesday, Stan from the Rotary club of Wednesfield was our guest to see the fun and training session take place. The team was wearing new cycling shirts that have been sponsored by the Rotary club. Thank you to Stan and the Rotary Club for their generosity and supporting the youth of our club. Wednesfield Aces, welcome new members, get in touch or come along on a Tuesday at 6:30pm.
Over the weekend Horspath celebrated their 70th Anniversary! Their weekend entailed a mixture of individual and team race events.
Ace Corey Burt had been invited to race in the Juniors event which he scored 8 points following a race DNF. Then due to other commitments many of our senior riders were away but thankfully to Nat, Jasper, Elijah and Alex all stepping up to represent the team in the team event. Unfortunately, the lads did not make it past the semi final stages to qualify for the final but a good days racing was enjoyed by all. SUNDAY RACING REPORT…
The aces travelled to perry bar to take on Birmingham on Sunday it was very competitive match with the lead changing hands 3 times, the Monarchs had multi World finalist and former British champion Paul heard and multi world finalist Chris Timms at reserves just in case. Ht1 was a 6/4 win where Heard got the better of Lee in the first of their 3 meetings of the afternoon. Aces took the lead in the match with a superb 3/7 from CJ & Tom in Ht3 which was increased with a 4/6 in Ht5 from Corey & Scott Doc the first of 2 Ht wins for Corey. Lee got the better of Heard in Ht7 holding him to last place with Alex taking the 2nd. Aces lost the lead in the last heat of the half with a 7/3 ht loss so at half-time the scores stood at Bham 46 Aces 44. Two consecutive Ht wins at the start of the second half for the Aces saw them restore 3pnt lead but Timms came out in 12&13 to record maximum ht wins and restore Bham's lead to 6pnts but a brilliant maximum to Corey & CJ in 16 brought it back to 2pnts and thats how it ended with bham using Timms in last two make sure they secured the win. Plenty of positives for the Aces a return to action for Tom, Corey mixing it with the big boys CJs continued improvement after his injury. Alex's points return was impressive as was king of team riding Scott Docs bonus points. Report by: Mick Aris Two of our aces had been called up to represent the Midlands team yesterday in the junior Battle of Britain event hosted by Coventry. Despite the strong team of the East and South West the team still gave it their all! Corey was top scorer for the team scoring 15 points and team partner Elijah also contributed 6 points to the team! Awesome effort lads! Well done to you both! After his first England call up Corey joined Charlie and Lily Parr, Tom Dunphy and George Whale in the England B squad. Contributing a cracking 12 points to the total including a race win - England B brought home the win!
Many congratulations to the team and to Corey for his incredible performance! Well done mate! Results from Poole
Today was day one of Pooles infamous Laurels event. News is in and congratulations are in order for Veteran rider Lee Aris who finished second overall. Well done Lee! After the excitement of our reunion night it was back to business down at the track on Sunday as Wednesfield were hosts to our second club day of the year!
24 riders took part in the event which first started with each rider completing a 4 lap time trial to determine which final the riders would then later be racing in. The fastest 12 riders were then split away into the A final and the formula was devised for their Olympique event while the other 12 riders made up the formula for the B final. Having recorded the fastest time in the time trials with an incredible timing of 46.16 seconds Lee Aris then went on to drop only two points from his four heats to take the win of the day. Leicester's Mark Whitehead picked up second place following a nasty fall in his second race and to complete the A final podium after finishing in third in the time trials with a time of 47.15 was Aces own Corey Burt at only 15 years old! Taking the win of the B final formula was again another Aces rider: Jasper Walton, after pulling off some impressive passes he only dropped the one point in his heats to take the top spot on the podium! Second place then went to Michelle Whitehead of Leicester and third to Louis Travers from Birmingham who was the only rider to beat Jasper in the heats! All results of the day: A Final 1st Lee Aris 18 pts 2nd Mark Whitehead 17 pts 3rd Corey Burt 16 pts Kev Burns 16 pts Scot Doherty 15 pts Nicky Whitehead 15pts Chris Jewkes 15 pts Norman Venson 14 pts Lucy Whitehead 13 pts Alex Aris 12 pts Dan Green 12 pts Nathaniel Ward 11 pts B Final 1st Jasper Walton 19 pts 2nd Michelle Whitehead 18pts 3rd Louis Travers 17 pts Elijah Ward 16 pts Georgia Burt 16 pts Ethan Lawrence 15 pts Geordan Onions 14 pts Nyla Aris 13 pts Honey Whitehead 13 pts Amy Baynes 12 pts Erica Aris 9 pts Following the exciting day of the third round of the British Youth and Junior League at Birmingham Aces old, young, past and present headed down to Gilberts bar in Willenhall for a reunion night. The night was attended by over 100 members of the club whether that was old riders, new riders, volunteers or family members aces all came together to celebrate the club having first won the British Team Cup AKA 'the Bin' 50 years ago! Wednesfield have since gone on to win the event countless other times including their five year on the trot wins from 2013 to 2017. We were even blessed with the attendance of all the members of the team who first won the title for Wednesfield Aces so we took the perfect opportunity for a photo recreation! The night was then spent reminiscing and reflecting on each others experiences and times at the club.
Thank you to all who attended! We hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did! On Saturday 18th May the youngest members of the club took to the cycle speedway circuit over at Perry Barr. We had five of our members take part in the races in their respected categories these riders were:
Erica Aris: scoring 8 points in the heats and finished second in the B final! Nyla Aris: scored 5 points in the qualifying heats after a fall meaning she did not take part in her final qualifying race but then went onto win the B final! Jacob Jewkes: Qualified into the A final after scoring 11 points including 2 race wins, he then went onto finish in third place in the final. Moving onto the Under 16's category; Corey Burt scored 14 points in the heats he then went onto finish in second place in the A final. Finally Elijah Ward scored 11 points including a race win meant that he was in the A final where he finished in third position. Well done to all our riders who took part!
