ANOTHER TRIP DOWN SOUTH FOR COREY
Sporting his Southampton Saints jersey after joining the team for the national league racing for this season, Corey took to the Southampton track in the Brian Makepeace Memorial junior invitational today.
After only dropping three points to finish with 17 Corey secured the bronze medal behind Hull’s Noah Lyon (18pts), Great Blakenham’s Luca Woodhouse (20pts).
Another very successful day of racing for Corey executing fast daring passes on opponents and lighting quick gates the bronze was very well deserved. Many congratulations Corey

The Under 10s produced the highlight of the day, with three Aces riders — Jenson, Nevaeh, and Arlo — delivering a dominant display.

Today we had one Ace who travelled to Newport to take part in the Welsh open.
The Open event kicked off at 3pm with a very respectful minute applause for Steve Harris and Mick Aris.
Corey Burt then started his campaign to try and win the title. After a horrific crash in his first race which saw all four called back he then went on to score an amazing 17 points putting him in the run off for 2nd!
Which he won.
So a fantastic 2nd place podium finish for Corey ( Wednesfields own pocket rocket iykyk )

Mick Aris Obituary

Mick Aris 1952–2026
The Wednesfield Aces Club is sad to announce the death of longtime legendary rider Mick Aris at the age of 73.
Mick died after a long and courageous fight against cancer.
To Theresa, Wayne, Lee, Michelle and all of Mick’s extended family we send our clubs heartfelt sympathy at this difficult time.
I first met Mick in 1965 he was 13 and I was 17, a local lad from Ashmore Park in Wednesfield. Mick personified every thing that was good in cycle speedway, fierce rivalry on the track and good humour and friendship off the track.
Mick was responsible in no small way for bringing together the riders that would go on to form the Aces team of the 70’s and 80’s that so dominated our sport.
I will miss Mick as a friend of over 60 years, our sport will miss a rider of great ability and a person with a warm and engaging personality and one of the finest team riders of his generation.
In the very near future the club will honour Mick in its own way on the track with a remembrance day and to honour Micks final wishes to have his ashes scattered on the Ashmore Park track where he had some of his finest moments.
Goodbye my old friend
Paul R. Bodley J.P
Club President.

A fantastic day of racing unfolded under sunny skies at Wednesfield’s Ashmore Park circuit, with a strong turnout and plenty of competitive action throughout.
The day began with a well-supported junior event, attracting 18 riders. In a move designed to maximise competition and development, riders were grouped by ability rather than age. This approach created closely fought races and provided an excellent platform for improvement. It was particularly encouraging to see such a healthy number of young riders enjoying cycle speedway across the Midland region.
Attention then turned to the first round of this season’s Midland Battles series. The competition features five teams, with the Birmingham club fielding two sides. It was these two teams that set the pace, frequently exchanging the lead in an exciting contest. Ultimately, the Birmingham Saints proved too strong for the Birmingham Sinners to take the top spot on the day.
Host club Wednesfield delivered a solid performance to secure third place, followed by Leicester, with Coventry close behind. The new format ensured plenty of racing and kept the competition engaging from start to finish.
Well done to all riders and officials for contributing to a thoroughly enjoyable and successful day of cycle speedway

Yesterday over at Birmingham the monarchs held their club day inviting all Midlands riders to gather at the track for a great day of racing to include individual events and a pairs event with the senior and junior riders paired together to get as many points as they could! Great day had by all! Well done to all the riders you guys and girls smashed it!
A few hours away at a surprisingly sunny Hull track Ace Georgia was back to pulling on the infamous blue and yellow shirt of the Women's Midlands Team! Having won the league last year the girls, trying to juggle it all were happy to race and see what happened and surprised themselves with taking the silver position on the day! Georgia's contributions included a race win helped the Midlands rake in an impressive 63 points just 3 points behind the winners of the day - the East! Well done girls on this fab achievement!

Wednesfield were out in force once again, fielding an impressive 13 riders from the 32-strong lineup A fantastic turnout, with the majority being our youngsters — all wearing the Wednesfield shirt with pride and putting in brilliant performances
Despite a classic spell of April showers , spirits stayed high and the racing was as competitive as ever. With two formats in play, there was plenty of action throughout the day, giving everyone the chance to get stuck in — and the score sheets show just how close it all was!
A big thank you to Leicester for hosting a fantastic event, and to referee Matt Wilcockson and pits marshal Kevin Turley for keeping things running smoothly
Another great day of racing and development for the team — on to the next one!

Thanks to the organisation of Laura Watson to get the women’s racing started for the 2026 season a match was held at Horspath today inviting girls all over the country to come and race round the Oxford based circuit. Ace Nyla who has started to make her mark on the women’s racing scene after finishing inside the top 10 at the U16’s girls world champs at the end of last season it’s great to see her holding her own out there again today to go on to score an impressive 13 points including a race win. Well done Nyla!
Next up was dad Lee in the vets event to see if he could live up to the example that Nyla had just laid out on the track for him
At the end of the heats Lee was entered into a three way run off. Drawing the favoured grid one, but home favourite Mark Boaler made it difficult heading into the first bend for Aris. While the two battled Dave Hemsley took advantage of the gap created by the tousling two to claim the win with Lee holding off Mark till the end to finish in second in the run off and overall. Great effort Lee congratulations for the silver
