The social afternoon arranged for Sunday 29th January 2023 has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances but to save the booking of the room from going to waste we are going to instead hold the Wednesfield Aces AGM.
This is at the Minerva Pub from 2pm. All members welcome. Riders, parents, grandparents, volunteers, supporters of the club and everyone else, you are invited to our social afternoon on 29th January 2023 from 2pm till 6pm at the Minerva Pub, Essington.
We are using this opportunity to reflect on the 2022 Cycle Speedway season and as a chance to get together before the 2023 season begins! Results from our Wednesfield Aces Annual Club Championships WILL be released on that date so come and see if you have been crowned the winner! We look forward to seeing you all soon! Hope you had a lovely Christmas and have a happy new year The events of yesterday went something like this...
First up the Vets over 40's wearing the Aces shirts Lee Ashman finished on 7 points and Craig Guy finished on 11! Next up was Corey in the Under 16's boys final who managed to be there to pick up points where other riders made some mistakes this included beating the winner of the event Noah Woodhouse and Poole's Kenzie Bennett. Corey finished on 9 points great achievement for Corey. Next up was the women's event where Megan and Georgia Burt took to the track. Megan after 2 rides unfortunately had to withdraw from the event due to injury. Georgia changing bikes half way through the event went on to score 8 points! Well done girls! On behalf of Wednesfield we would also like to wish Honey Whitehead of Leicester a speedy recovery after breaking her other arm after a fall yesterday at Birmingham! Last up was the Open event unfortunately after the run off with A&T's Reece Pollitt off the inside gates Chris Jewkes ended up being first reserve but after Gavin Wheeler pulled out of the match with his 2 remaining gate ones meaning to on the trot Chris filled in for the one of them but then pulled out which allowed Ipswich's James Porter the second reserve to gain experience riding in an open final. The racing was very close amongst all the categories making the whole day very tense and exciting. Huge well done to Birmingham Monarchs who staged the blue ribbon day the day was a huge success. Hats off to all our other fellow Midlands clubs who helped host what has been a great weekend of racing. The Annual British Championships will be held again next year but up in the Northern Region! Today is the finale of the British Championship Weekend held here in the Midlands. Today our riders will be at Birmingham Monarchs Cycle Speedway Club with 4 British titles up for grabs.
In the Vets affiliated to the Wednesfield club is Lee Ashman. We would also like to wish Craig Guy best of luck in this vets final as he has been riding with us throughout this season. Following the vets final we have the Under 16's Boys championship which Corey has qualified for and will take up riding position number 1! This is Corey's first under 16's final and he will be one of the youngest within the line up. We wish you all the best Corey! Set to start at 2pm we have Georgia and Megan Burt in the Women's final who will be battling it out to try and earn themselves as many points as they can get their hands on to finish it good positions. Best of luck girls! Finally, the Open event is set to start at 4pm depending on if Chris beats A&T's Reece Pollitt in there run off if he is successful Chris will complete the line up as rider number 16 but if not will fill in the position as first reserve. Best of luck to you all today! For the aces the day was filled with qualifiers for both Corey Burt and Chris Jewkes.
Up first at the Coventry circuit was Chris riding in the open semi final 3. Including 2 race wins Chris scored 15 points taking his total up to 27 points. He will be in a run off with A&T's Reece Pollitt for the final place in the open. Next up was Corey who was also racing at Coventry with the aims to qualify for his first Under 16's boys final. After 3 rides and a smash into the fence in his second race Corey secured the race win to see him through to the final. At Wednesfield:
First up at 10am after 2 rides Corey was able to qualify for the Under 14's boys final. Following the qualifier it was time for the Under 12's Girls British final which Aces Millie had entered despite only getting back into the sport 3 weeks ago. Millie rode really well and kept up with the riders to score a well deserved 10 points! It was back to the boys for the Under14's Boys final. Corey pulled 2 gate 4's but this didn't hinder him as he swiftly pulled off his famous CJ move in both of them and secured second place in all of his five rides leaving him on 15 points just 1 point off a run off for the podium spot. He finished in joint 4th along with Southampton's George Whale and Kesgrave's Harvey Schumake. Over at Leicester: Chris Jewkes was up for his Semi final where he scored 12 points around the Leicester circuit which included a race win. Chris will then be racing again today (Sun 28th) in his other semi final to hopefully secure enough points to make it into Mondays final at Birmingham. Saturday 27th

On Saturday we had 6 of our riders take to the track to compete for places in finals and points in the second round of the British Youth and Junior League.
First up we had Finley in the Under 8’s gaining more experience with competitive racing did well to score 7 points and finished second in the C final! In the Under 10’s category we had 2 riders competing, Cleo and Jacob. After only being apart of our club for 2 weeks Cleo gave competitive racing a shot and did really well to put in her 3 laps in each race she did- well done Cleo! Jacob after winning the runoff for a spot in the C final then went on to win it! Next up was Corey in the Under14’s after scoring 10 points in his heats following some spectacular legendary ‘CJ’ passes and even sliding around a corner somehow staying on his bike he went on to finish second in the B final. Lastly, we had Megan and Ellis racing in the Under 18’s and girls category. Ellis after an unlucky fall in his second race finished the heats on 13 points and then finished 2nd in his A final. Megan experienced her first time racing again since injury and did well to keep putting in her 4 laps to then finish 4thin the A final. Of course, the day would not have been a success without our lovely club volunteers thank you and well done to you all! We would also like to thank Andy for refereeing most of the day but also a special thank you to Leon Mower for stepping in last minute and refereeing a few matches for us also. Also thanks to Kesgrave and Maddie for the photos I've pinched National round 3 will take place on the 20th August at Newport. Sunday 3rd July down at our Ashmore Park track following a night of 60th anniversary celebrations, celebrations for the aces continued following a win against our other Midland clubs our 3rd round of the KO cup team riding event.
The aces team took the lead very early on in the matched and took the win thanks to the seven 7-3 wins they secured with team mates Ellis and Brandon securing a 7-3 win every time they took to the track. The final scores being: Wednesfield 75 points Leicester 61 points Birmingham 55 points Coventry 47 points Well done all and thanks to our volunteers who were amazing as always! |
