A massive thank you goes out to Dave Jewkes and Cindy Ellis who at last weeks AGM resigned from their posts.
Andy Parfitt will now take up the position of Club Secretary and discussions are in place for the new Catering Management.
End of an era 1 - Dave Jewkes
Wednesfield aces held its AGM on Sunday 28th January and announced that Dave Jewkes has stepped down as club secretary.
Dave has worked tirelessly behind the scenes as club secretary for 28 years. Dave along with his late wife Diane who was also Treasurer have played a major part in helping the Aces and Dragons achieve the success it has had for many years.
There have been many great achievements at the club over the years such as staging British and World finals and this would not have been possible without the work that Dave has done.
The club would like to thank Dave for the hard work and many years of dedicated service as club secretary to Wednesfield Aces. Dave isn’t disappearing completely from club duties as he will still be chairman and chief race announcer on race days along with programme editor.
Andy Parfitt now takes over as Club secretary and all members wish Andy well in his new role.
End of an era 2 - Cindy Ellis
Wednesfield Aces also announce today that Cindy Ellis – Catering Manager has stepped down from her role at the recent AGM.
Cindy has been managing the clubhouse catering for 11 years and has played a major role in helping the Aces achieve its success off the track.
She has worked tirelessly in the club canteen and as the clubs welfare officer for many years. Alongside husband and cycle speedway legend Roger Ellis they have both volunteered a big part of their life together to the club. Aces members all know that without the funds Cindy and her race day helpers have raised over the years the current facilities at the Wednesfield track just wouldn’t have been made possible.
In 2012 the clubhouse was hit by a devastating arson attack but this didn’t deter Cindy from setting up a kitchen on a camp stove and continuing to serve refreshments just hours after the fire brigade had left.
At the recent club presentation evening Cindy received a crystal vase from Chairman Dave Jewkes and husband Roger thanking her for everything she had done for the last 11 years since she joined Wednesfield. A very emotional moment for all in attendance.
Recently Cindy hasn’t been well and I’m sure everyone in Cycle Speedway also sends Cindy their best wishes.
