Yesterday we were hosts to the new format of the Midland League with all competing teams gathering to one track to compete in their respective fixtures. The day saw more people utilising the track and created a better atmosphere with more people gathering at the fence to spectate. After the last minute changes for Wednesfield to host, a massive thank you to all our volunteers for stepping in including canteen staff and our first time DJ's and announcers over the PA system you girls smashed it!
The first match saw Birmingham take a win over Coventry with their result finishing at 96-84. The Wednesfield vs Leicester match (that ran at the same time) saw Wednesfield defeated against the visitors suffering from a few gate 1 point deductions and an exclusion creating a bigger gap for Leicester to ride away with the win to finish 79 - 89
With the sun shining brightly and some great displays of team riding by all teams it was a great day for all!

CYCLING PACKED WEEKEND RESULTS
On Saturday Wednesfield had the pleasure of hosting the 15th Anniversary of the Women’s League meeting as organised by Laura Watson. The day saw an impressive 27 riders take to our Ashmore Park Track including two of our own Nyla and Georgia.
It was Nyla’s first time competing in a ‘women’s league’ event with her goal to be up there with the other riders a goal which she absolutely smashed. Racing all the way through the qualifier and then the B final. Nyla went above and beyond her goal even securing a couple of second and third places and even tried to stick a few inside passes! Great work Nyla!
Georgia made hard work of the qualifier and made up for a lifetime of gate ones (an unfamiliar grid spot for her ) finally qualifying at the last minute following a fall. Going into the A final with an already empty tank and another two gate ones later G secured 6pts in the A final.
On the Sunday Lee and Chris headed over to Birmingham to race in their open club day. Top work lads.

WEEKEND OF RACING FOR THE ACES
Saturday kicked off the start to the BYJL series for 2025 with Coventry being round one hosts. Only lone ace Jacob was able to make the trip over and due to participation numbers spent the round racing two age groups above his own! Nevertheless Jacob went out and put in his four laps for every race to finish 4th in the final! Great effort Jacob!!
Sunday saw an Aces team of 5 head over to Leicester for the first round of the newly introduced Battle of the Midlands. The match provided some very close racing with some great results from our team. Wednesfield definitely lived up to their reputation of being a great team riding style of team using their experience and skills to even out heats by splitting up partnerships of Birmingham's Mark Winwood and Paul Heard as well as gaining heat advantages against Leicester's Kev Burns and Mark Whitehead.
At the end of the heats Wednesfield placed third just three points behind Leicester with Birmingham brining home the win on 71 points.
Wednesfield Team scores:
CJ: Scoring 14pts from 5 rides (3,1,4,3,3)
Nat: Scoring 7pts from 4 rides (1 (-1 for tape movement),1,4,1)
Corey: Scoring 20pts from 6 rides (4,3,4,2,4,3)
G: Scoring 7pts from 4 rides (2,1,3,1)
Lee: As reserve rider scoring 12 pts from 5 rides (3,2,2,3,2)

Joining over 25 riders Georgia and Nat both made the trip over to Coventry for their club day yesterday. On the day they decided the format would be a ladder league.
Nat used his ever increasing speed to get two race wins from about three gate fours on the day.
G was out holding her own on the track but after a clattering along the fence lead to more cautious racing for the rest of the day.
Well done to you both

Firstly, we would like to thank all riders, parents and our volunteers for what was a great enjoyable day of racing so thank you all for coming!
First event of the day was the semi finals for our senior riders to qualify for either the A or B final. Wednesfield’s own Lee Aris and Corey Burt scoring 17 and 16 points respectively earned their spots in the A final. Chris Jewkes missed out on the A final by just a point, Nat Ward and Georgia Burt also joined him in the B final.

Next up was the 15’s and Under Final. Aces Jacob Jewkes and Nyla Aris both took part to continuously build their confidence when racing with others and both put in a tremendous effort. The event was won by Poole’s Jamie Randall on a 20pt max, 2nd place went to Coventrys Jude Wilcockson. The final place on the podium went to a three way run off after all riders scored 17 points; Sheffields Oliver Banyard, Ipswich’s Mitchell Baker and the winner of the run off securing the third place spot Kesgrave’s Charlie Spurgeon.

The B final resulted in Aces Chris Jewkes having a run off for the top spot with Andy Yard of Newport which following an exclusion Andy Yard took the Win which left CJ standing on the Second spot. Third place of the B final also went to a run off between Sheffield’s last minute entry Lizzie Rigley and Birmingham’s Brendan Sidebotham to which Lizzie took the win. After an incredibly timed pass in his final race Nat finished on 11pts with G finishing on 6pts after a fall in her second ride.
In the highly competitive A final Lee was able to stick some incredible passes to finish on 12 points after his five rides. Corey Burt became the talk around the track impressing all with his track skill earned him a respectable 14 points in this top line up. The podium for the A final was overrun by Birmingham with Ben Mould taking the top spot after only dropping the one point, Second place went to Chris Timms with Paul Heard in third.
