Wednesfield Aces travelled to Birmingham for the final round of the Midland Battle League, sitting in second place and with a real opportunity to claim the league title.
The club travelled in impressive numbers, with 20 riders making the trip. Many of our younger riders took part in the junior event earlier in the day, providing another fantastic opportunity to put their training and track skills into practice. Competing against riders from across the region, they gained valuable race experience while also making new friendships along the way.
Following the junior racing came the main Midland Battle event, with every club fielding strong teams in what promised to be a highly competitive contest. The racing certainly lived up to expectations, producing an exciting afternoon of cycle speedway.
The battle for top spot was closely fought between Wednesfield Aces and Birmingham Sinners throughout the meeting. Wednesfield produced a number of strong individual performances, with Corey Burt particularly impressive as he remained unbeaten in his opening five rides, helping to keep the Aces firmly in contention throughout the afternoon.
In the end, the home side edged ahead to secure victory on the day and claim the maximum league points. Wednesfield finished second, earning four valuable league points.
Those points proved crucial, but ultimately Birmingham moved onto 18.5 league points, with Wednesfield finishing on 18. The Aces therefore missed out on the league title by just half a point – a remarkably close finish and a testament to the competitive nature of this year's competition.
Despite narrowly missing out on top spot, it was a hugely positive day for the club. Seeing so many members racing, developing their skills and enjoying the sport was a real success, and hopefully this strong participation will continue throughout the remainder of the season
